A Columbia University think tank invited a Hamas-sympathizing activist facing deportation to speak at an upcoming 9/11-themed event.

The school’s Knight First Amendment Institute will feature Columbia graduate student Mohsen Mahdawi in one of several discussions on Sept. 10 marking the 25th anniversary of America’s “War on Terror,” according to an announcement from the institute. The Trump administration is fighting in court to have Mahdawi deported over alleged support for terrorism and for participating in violent 2024 protests at Columbia University.
