MapQuest, the mapping service long associated with stacks of printed driving directions, has found its way back to the top of the technology world after it refused to change Lake Ontario’s name in its app after President Donald Trump renamed the body of water.
The MapQuest app surged to the No. 1 spot in Apple’s App Store this week, dethroning ChatGPT, after refusing to follow Trump’s move to rename Lake Ontario as “Lake America,” breaking from other mapping apps that updated their maps to reflect the change.
