Florida GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz took a victory lap on social media, touting a picture of a copy of the laptop believed to belong to Hunter Biden that he physically entered into the congressional record Wednesday.
Following a heated exchange with FBI’s Bryan Vorndran, assistant director of the FBI’s Cyber Division, during a hearing on Tuesday, Gaetz got the green light to enter a copy of the purported laptop hard drive into the congressional record.
MATT GAETZ ENTERS HUNTER BIDEN LAPTOP INTO CONGRESSIONAL RECORD
“Anyone surprised that a day after FBI looks like they’re covering for the Biden Crime Family. … we get the false flag DOJ authorized leaks to CNN that things are really ‘heating up’ in the hunter case?” Gaetz tweeted Wednesday. “We live in a world where tracking the patterns of their lies reveals truth.”
The FBI’s Cyber Division had no information about the status of the copy of the laptop hard drive the FBI received in 2019, Vorndran told Gaetz during Tuesday’s back-and-forth. The hearing was largely centered on cyberthreats to the United States, but Vorndran agreed to take Gaetz’s request for a follow-up briefing on the laptop back to FBI headquarters.

“We are going to take the Hunter Biden Laptop, the most suppressed information in the world, and put it in the official record for everyone to see and make your own judgments,” Gaetz tweeted after Tuesday’s hearing.
The owner of a computer repair shop in Delaware, John Paul Mac Isaac, claimed that Hunter Biden’s laptop was left at his shop in 2019 and that no one returned to retrieve it. A copy of the laptop’s hard drive was shared with Rudy Giuliani, who distributed additional copies of it to conservative groups. Many Republicans, including Gaetz, cited contents that emerged from the device to criticize some of the Biden family’s business dealings.
Hunter Biden is currently facing a federal investigation for his tax practices and has drawn political scrutiny for his overseas business dealings, including in China and Ukraine. Critics such as Gaetz have contended that many of his dealings presented conflicts of interest for President Joe Biden.

News outlets such as NPR and CNN initially cast doubt on the validity of the New York Post’s story on the laptop. Big Tech companies such as Twitter even moved to suppress the story.
The New York Times and Politico confirmed that some of the contents on the laptop could be independently authenticated. On Wednesday, the Washington Post published a story exploring Hunter Biden’s business dealings with a Chinese energy company, citing an analysis of content from a copy of the laptop.
