It’s easy for celebrities to bash Donald Trump. But Betty White isn’t like most celebrities.
In an interview with Yahoo’s Katie Couric, the 95-year-old golden girl refused to criticize or mock President-elect Donald Trump when given the opportunity.
Couric set the trap by asking about the state of our country.
“The world is in a very interesting place right now,” Couric opened. “What do you think about the state of our country and how divided it seems to be?”
White agreed initially, but then completely steered clear of Couric’s goal of commenting on Trump, saying, “It’s very divided, and we’re not in the best place we’ve ever been. I think that’s the time to buckle down and really work positively as much as you can instead of just saying, ‘This is terrible. He’s terrible.’”
Instead, the legendary actress said that we should focus on things within our control instead of worrying about everything else.
The veteran anchor, who infamously edited a documentary about guns, continued pressing White.
“It’s hard for some people to be positive right now because there’s so much negativity, from the highest office in the land-or soon to be to everybody and their brother putting things out on social media. It almost feels toxic, doesn’t it?”
White rebuked Couric by politely pointing out that if you start a conversation with “I hate” instead of “I love,” your negative attitude won’t change.
