Comedian Jon Stewart absolutely couldn’t believe that the demographic breakdown of newly elected Republicans Wednesday night.
He just kept repeating that it was “unbelievable” that the GOP isn’t just old white men and incredulously announced that the Republicans now were represented by blacks, Hispanics, women, and young people.
Stewart brought on Daily Show correspondent Jessica Williams to discuss the diverse array on incoming senators and congressmen. But instead of considering it an accomplishment of the Republican policies, Williams said it was just another way for them to attack Democrats.
“Republicans didn’t just take Democrats’ seats, they stole their essence. The GOP went from a Brooks Brothers catalog to a United Colors of Benetton ad. It’s not fair. I mean, how would Republicans feel if Democrats came in and started denying climate change or decided that life begins at impure thoughts?” she decried.
“…They are Single White Female-ing the Democrats!”
Ultimately, Stewart and Williams came to the conclusion that the midterms were just a fluke and that this indicates bigger minority gains for the Democrats in 2016.
Wow….talk about creating your own narrative.
