LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — General Electric says it’s adding 380 employees later this summer to make the company’s new bottom-freezer refrigerators at its Appliance Park facility in Louisville.
The company said Wednesday that the new workers will be placed on second-shift production in anticipation of strong sales for its new line of refrigerators. Overall, the company said it has increased its production work force by 772 workers in the facility.
Besides the new production positions, GE Appliances has added about 100 salaried positions to support the product.
Paul Surowiec, refrigeration product general manager at GE Appliances, says bottom-freezer refrigerators are the fastest-growing on the market. Because of that trend, he says the company had contingency plans for a two-shift operation.
In February, GE began producing a hybrid water heater at Appliance Park, which employs about 5,000 people.
